You’re right, Umair. Of course you are. But here’s the thing: telling us how awful everything is every damn day doesn’t help. It drives people to despair. Nobody’s marching in the streets. You haven’t inspired anyone to push for change. You’ve painted such a bleak picture, folks are just giving up.

So here’s a challenge for February: write about hope, the power of love, the positive change that can come out of disaster. Take a break from what you do best and try to lift a spirit or inspire a smile. You may lose money, but you may save a life.

You have power. Use it for good, because your well-intentioned doom-saying and finger waving is bumming us out. We know what’s wrong. What can we do to fix it? It’s easy to say what went wrong. It’s obvious. We even saw it was going to happen. It’s time to stop trotting out the same old shit show and give us some solutions. Otherwise, you’re just Fox News and MSNBC, giving us what sells without coming up with legitimate solutions. Without hope, we can’t move forward.

So there’s your challenge. Are you a one trick pony, or do you have what it takes to make positive change? Show us what you’ve got.
