You'll be happy to know that your comment prompted me to provide more information in the photo caption. Christopher. It was wrong of me to assume that most people outside of Hawaii would know who these celebrities were.
I chose the photo because it is interesting and reveals a lot about who Doris Duke was. It was taken during the Depression, when most Americans could only visit Hawaii in their dreams, let alone surf with an Olympic champion.
In addition, the photo shows a young yet utterly confident and relaxed Duke. She's the most powerful person in the picture and she knows it.
