You make some good points, Alan. Some years ago, my husband and I went to see Tim Allen in Las Vegas. He’d been away from standup for a while having massive success with Home Improvement and movies like The Santa Clause and Toy Story. He was very funny, and then he started making jokes that made it clear: he was a stanch Conservative. It took the air out of the room for a bit and, pro that he is, he switched to more neutral subjects. Mr. Loveable Goofball Everyman let his mask slip and it wasn’t pretty.
