If J.K Rowling, Charles Dickens, or any other writer you admire was going to review your work, what would you do differently? It’s a good thing to consider. Here’s why.

We aim to please

Writers write because they want others to hear their voices. If that drive inspires an Oscar-winning script, a best-selling novel, or a piece in the New Yorker, that’s great.

Critical and financial success are what it takes to make a good living as a writer. But how do you get there?

If you’re looking to drop the hyphen from your job description (not “writer-programmer” or “writer-Uber driver” but just “writer”), you need to attract a sizable number of readers.

You do that, first and foremost, by writing what people want to read. Some people have figured out what that is. Learn from them.
