Why, why, why, do people keep trying to turn me into a salesperson? I’m not good at it. If I were, I’d go into sales, which is much easier money than writing, if you’re good at it. I don’t want to sell subscriptions. My newsletter is free. I don’t want to sell courses. I don’t want to monetize my blog, podcast, or YouTube channel. I don’t even have all of those. Just as corporations have been offloading tasks to customers (leave a message, write a review, scan and pack your own groceries, etc.) writing platforms are looking to writers to pay the bills instead of paying writers themselves. It’s a troubling trend.
