When my parents moved to Alexian Village in Signal Mountain, TN, my mother was accepted with no strings attached. The buy in would take care of her for the rest of her life. My father however, was already diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Although he was high functioning, they wouldn’t agree to care for him indefinitely. As it turned out, my mother died first. When my father died, he had just $4,000 left to his name. If he had lived, my sisters and I would have had to pay for his care going forward. It worked out okay for them, but it’s good to note that you shouldn’t wait too long before exercising that option to buy into a community.
