When I got married in the 1980s, a lot of women kept their maiden names. I changed mine for purely practical reasons because my maiden name is unpronounceable. Even branches of my own family pronounce it differently. I also love genealogy and the traditional naming system helps a lot with that. I do however support anyone who chooses their own name if the one they’ve got doesn’t make them happy. Life is too short to labour under such a burden when you don’t have to.
