This reminds me of the story of how King Solomon, when faced with two women both claiming to be the mother of a child, was asked to decide the issue. He suggested cutting the child in half and giving half to each. One of the women agreed while the other said she’d give up her claim to the baby if only the king would let him live. Solomon gave the baby to the woman willing to surrender her claim, because she cared more about the baby than about winning ownership.

The fact that the biological dad threatened the bride that he wouldn’t come if he couldn’t walk her down the aisle indicates that he cares more about the honor than his daughter’s happiness. She made the right decision.

Just as he is under no obligation to leave her anything in his will, she is under no obligation to extend him the honor of walking her down the aisle. It sounds like he wasn’t around for the big stuff as she was growing up, but her stepfather was and so deserves the honor. He earned it.
