This game is gamble and the house always wins. I used to do well on Medium. I had a couple of good years. Then, everything went south and kept going. One read and two likes is a good day.

So I gave NewsBreak a whirl. I got really excited. I was monetized a week before the end of the month and I made over $100. I was getting pay-per-1,000 rates on NB that were crazy good on some stories, $47, $24, $17. I had three stories go viral BEFORE I was monetized, but only one since. All of a sudden, the majority of my stuff is monetized at around $3 per 1,000. They hook you and then they sink you.

I do a newsletter on Substack but it isn’t anything anyone would pay to read. I just do it because I dumped my website and wanted to have a home of my own someplace.
