There was a time, Scott, when I longed to see Trump behind bars, but I see the wisdom in a plea deal. It won’t inflame diehard supporters the way prison would. Most of us don’t want to hold public office, so it’s unlikely folks would be too broken up if Trump were barred from it. Every one of us, however, dreads the idea of prison. We even find ourselves feeling at least a little sorry for some of those who get sent there. I was not a fan of Martha Stewart but I do think she was made an example of because of her celebrity while others did similar crimes and didn’t lose their freedom.
