The saving grace of this position, Sherry, is that it’s temporary. It would be different if you were in it for the long haul. I’m sure it feels like the long haul at the moment, but it will be over (I’m assuming) by Christmas. Put some of that green aside for a reward you can look forward to when it’s all over (maybe a trip to Vegas with your Medium besties — hint, hint!)

As much as it sucks, there are benefits to your current situation beyond money. Your brain is benefiting from learning new stuff, your self-esteem is getting a boost because you’re proving you can still do the job, and your resolve to make 2022 the year you crush it on doing what you love is being strengthened. There’s nothing like a shit job to convince you that it’s worth it to follow your dreams.

Here’s something else to think about. If you do quit, how will you feel about not finishing what you started? Your friend went to bat for you. How will it reflect on her if you flake? No matter how you frame it as being what’s best for you, you don’t live in a vacuum. Your choices have consequences for other people.

Don’t get me wrong. I am in no way suggesting you shouldn’t quit if you really need to, I’m just offering an alternate perspective since you still seem to be on the fence. (Easy for me since I’m not on the chain gang.) Whatever you decide, just know we’re all out here rooting for you.
