The problem with local news is that even if the pay per 1,000 is higher, which it isn’t always BTW, the views are a lot lower unless you live in a big city like New York or Los Angeles. Where I live, NewsBreak has all the local TV and radio stations and newspapers grinding out local content so that leaves precious little for writers like me to cover.

There isn’t a bingo game, high school play, or town hall meeting that hasn’t already been done to death. I can only imagine they expect things like deep dives into local characters which will take hours to write and which nobody will read.

I think writing platforms jerk us around. They lure us into thinking we can make money early on and then pull the rug out once they think we’re hooked. It happened to me on Vocal and Medium and now it’s happening to me on NewsBreak.
