Thanks, Karen. I’ve certainly found all these things to be true. I worked for a time at a divorce attorney’s office. There were very often mental health issues associated with the divorcing couples I witnessed. An otherwise perfectly wonderful person with bipolar disorder, depression, or OCD can be too difficult for someone to endure as a partner for long. I’ve also seen the miracles that the right medication can produce in people suffering from these disorders. I would encourage couples to undergo psychiatric evaluations prior to couples therapy before ending what had once been a good relationship. We’re all under a lot of stress these days and stress can cause havoc with anyone’s mental health.
