Some people don't trust it would be as good or think they wouldn't be able to get certain treatments or choose their doctor. It's absurd because the insurance companies prevent you from doing those things already. Most plans restrict you to only the doctors who have signed on to be part of your particular plan and they can deny coverage under certain circumstances. It's crazy.

My husband changed jobs (health insurance is usually provided by an employer who deducts the cost from your paycheck) and we inadvertently signed up for a plan that didn't include any of the seven top hospitals in our area. Our city has three of them. Luckily, we were able to get the broader network because we caught it in time.

The Republicans oppose national health care because they are either too rich or too poor to have to worry about paying for medical care. They'll get it without national health. About 50% of us would be up for it, but Congress can't get enough votes to get it done. There's also concern about the collapse of the health care industry if they change systems because it's always about the money, honey. Not that of the common citizen but that of the corporations.
