So true, Sherry, even though I kind of wish it weren’t. It’s important that the right person calls you “Baby.” If the wrong one does, it disgusts you in a way that being called “Honey” never would. It would be interesting to know if people from the South have the same reaction to “Baby" vs. “Honey" since they throw those around pretty generously along with “Darlin’,” “Puddin’,” and “Chile.” Sometimes “Honey” and “Baby" are teamed up with other words to make things like “Honey Lamb" and “Baby Girl.” Wow, you could do a master’s thesis on the subject! Dennis Quaid in “The Big Easy" generated a fair amount of heat with “Cherie" and even “Cher.” The biggest impact an endearment had on me was when I boy I was crushing on called me “Babydoll.” It was so 1940s. I absolutely swooned!
