This year’s presidential race is shaping up to be intense. No matter which candidate you support, chances are that somebody, possibly a lot of people in your neighborhood are supporting the other one. This situation might make you reluctant to post a sign in support of your candidate or to put one of their bumper stickers on your car because it might cause trouble. Do it anyway.
I was on the fence about whether or not to go public with my choice for president this time. I know that a political sign on my front lawn might inspire theft, vandalism, or adverse comments from my neighbors. I decided it was worth the risk. (I added a warning that the sign is under video surveillance. It is.)
Yes, it’s come to this. Americans are more and more concerned about the consequences of standing up and being counted. We need to push back against this before it’s too late. Our democracy hangs in the balance.
