Nostalgia really is powerful. I just finished Stephen King’s “Gwendy’s Button Box.” We first meet Gwendy as a pre-teen in the 1970s. I’m about four years older than Gwendy, so her world is familiar. Reading the book is almost like time travel for me. I get a jolt of pleasure when King mentions things like Huffy bikes, the Western Auto Store, and family Christmases where watching “A Christmas Carol” and doing jigsaw puzzles around the fire were typical. King’s ability to recreate the past is masterful.
