You have to have serious skills if you’re going to forage for mushrooms. There’s a scene in the TV series Beef where an Asian woman runs afoul of her sketchy foraging knowledge. When asked isn’t she a plant expert she admits no, that she just reads things and pretends to be. The character is a wealthy resident of Los Angeles, so maybe the trend isn’t so much a white thing as a privileged person trying to be cool thing.
