My husband and I went to Yosemite National Park on our honeymoon. We had been together for six years before we married, so we already knew each other pretty well. However, we were past the stage where we thought each other was perfect, and both of us were on the shady side of 25.

Our wedding was modest by most standards, with fewer than 75 guests. We didn’t spring for a suite at the Ahwahnee, Yosemite’s famous luxury hotel. Unlike some younger couples, we were responsible for many wedding expenses, so we didn’t want to break the bank. We had bills to pay when we got home.

We stayed in one of the tent cabins in Yosemite Village but were able to stroll around inside the Ahwahnee and marvel at its rustic opulence. During one of these forays among the beautiful people, we stopped in the hotel gift shop. I was looking for a souvenir.

A display case of crystal figurines caught my eye. Upon closer inspection, I spotted what I considered the perfect symbol of our relationship: an image of the Frog Prince in crystal and brass.
