Jessica Lange landed her first role in 1976’s King Kong on the basis of her beauty. (Meryl Streep auditioned but says the producer rejected her because he thought she was ugly.) Kong was a bit of an embarrassment, but Lange buckled down and honed her acting chops which paid off three years later in All That Jazz.
