J.K. Rowling has not, to my knowledge called for violence against anyone. Her refusal to accept the quite recent narrative that one’s gender is determined by one’s feelings rather than one’s biology has been interpreted as hate. I don’t see how it should be.

Some even want to ban the Harry Potter books, which would be a tragedy. These attacks on her are unfair. It’s only in the past couple of years that the general public has started to become aware of the wide range of gender identities. It takes time for people to process all this and keep up. Even then, most people will form their own opinions about the issue, and they are entitled to them. If we identify as something other than what society perceives us to be, not everyone is going to accept that.

Rowling’s wealth and celebrity have no bearing on whether or not her views on gender have merit. Neither of those things ensures intelligence nor erases it.
