I've suspected that Medium has been black-balling some writers and publications, especially those who are critical of the platform and some of its content. One of the editors for whose publication I write also writes stories on Medium. In spite of being a seasoned, professional, and an excellent writer whose stories are hysterical, her stuff never gets curated. I mean never. I recently had a story go viral in another publication. In three weeks, it's gotten over 469 hours in reading time. About a week later, I wrote something I thought would do pretty well and this editor, who is sharply critical of Medium, published it in hers. It's been out there two days and it's gotten one 11-minute read. The one person who read it loved it and commented that it was "spot on." This is beyond weird for me to get so few reads. Nearly every story I've written for the other publication where my previous story went viral has been curated and, at a minimum gets at least a dozen reads in two days, usually a lot more. The story that's doing so poorly is not critical of Medium, but it's in a publication whose editor is. Yes, the other publication has many more followers than the critical editor's does, but I have 1,300 followers, so even if I self-publish, I usually get a respectable number of reads. I can't help but smell a rat.
