It’s not just women who get this treatment, Evelyn. Plenty of people think the old, the poor, the sick or the disabled, not to mention all the other people discriminated against, are disposable. They think the “weak” who died of COVID were better off dead anyway, and that the rest of us are better off without them, too.

Humans have always been capable of great cruelty. I’m sorry to say they always will be. Luckily, they are also capable of astonishing acts of kindness. That’s the only thing that keeps me going sometimes.
