I Wrote About Love Every Day in February, and Here’s What Happened
Is it possible people aren’t interested in positivity?
In January, I became aware that many of the most popular stories on Medium were negative. People love to write essays about how wrong everything is: the environment, the economy, politics, attitudes, polarization, racism, genocide, drought, corruption, health care, etc. But unfortunately, some of the top writers on this platform are perpetual Chicken Littles. To them, the sky is always falling.
Stoking fear and anger has proven popular and lucrative, but is it healthy to read this stuff all the time? Does it make the world a better place to tell everyone how bad it is? Does it fix anything? No, of course not. But then that is not the aim of these writers, no matter what they may claim. The objective is to write what sells, and what sells best is misery. The sky is falling, and pennies from Heaven come down along with it.
So, since February is when our thoughts turn to love, romance, and valentines, I decided to experiment with my content. I pledged to write about love every day this month and challenged others to do so, too. Together, we could bring some positive vibes to the platform. I didn’t get many takers.
