I was a Communications major in college, Sophie. The Radio and TV majors spent many (and I mean countless) hours perfecting their voices for broadcasting. A podcast is like a radio program. Some people are born with “golden pipes,” but most of us have to work at it to sound good. Our voices sound different to others than they do to ourselves when we speak. Almost everyone hates the way they sound the first time they listen to it on a recording. You can absolutely improve the sound of your voice, but it takes work.
