I think the situation is improved if the work is remote. People who work in offices like to hire attractive people because they see them all the time. Sometimes its about the image the business wants to project, or because the boss is trying to stock his dating pool. Other times, it's just that, when given a choice, all else being equal, people will choose based on something irrelevant. I'll take the one wearing that gorgeous tie! I imagine some people haven't been hired because they looked like the boss's ex.
