I think Medium works best as a place to learn, experiment, figure things out, and engage with other writers. The top writers are either peddling porn, victim porn, Chicken Little shit, or rehashing the same old crap you can find by reading Dale Carnegie. Is that who you want to be? I know it’s not who I want to be.

So, I think the Medium flops are the real successes because we write whatever we want to without shoehorning it into some boring niche. I worked for years writing stuff I didn’t want to. The money was better, but I never got the satisfaction I’ve had here.
