I severed a relationship over a comment like that. The woman was from Germany and mentioned her distaste for black people casually. Unfortunately, she was staying with us so I had to spend an uncomfortable few more days with her. The same thing happened with a friend from Sweden. “I don’t so much like the blacks.” He has issues with “yellow people” too. We were friends with him for 30 years before that subject came up. He has a teenage daughter now who is giving him grief about his attitudes, so maybe that will help. I used to think of him as one of my closest friends. I can’t anymore.
