I remember when it came out that everyone joked about how the actors were absurdly old to be playing high school students and not everyone considered it wholesome. When they started doing high school productions, there were letters to the editor complaining about it in the local papers.

The one that blew my mind was Pretty Woman. People actually bought that tape as a stocking stuffer for their little girls and played it at sleepovers. As long as you’re pretty enough, you can be a hooker and rich guys will fall in love with you and buy you whatever you want. Yay, Girl Power!
