I paid $150 to a lactation consultant. By following her advice, I ended up in the ER with a double breast infection, the worst they’d ever seen. The LL people were awful, fake sympathy masking a rigid, judgmental mindset. I decided that the pain killers and antibiotics necessary to keep doing things “naturally” were more harmful then just pumping and bottle feeding. The bacteria in my baby’s mouth and my delicate skin would have just resulted in additional infections. I’m still furious about this 29 years later so we should stop here before I say something I shouldn’t.
