I love Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer novels, so I expected to at least like Bridgerton. I couldn’t get through a single episode. The costumes look cheap and in some cases bizarre, Mrs. B looks more like she should be out milking cows than mingling with the ton, and most of the actors don’t walk, speak, or hold themselves properly. The Regency period had very strict rules about everything. Merchant Ivory and Julian Fellows set a very high bar for this sort of thing and Bridgerton is embarrassing in comparison. The actor who plays Simon (Rege-Jean Page) is about the only one who seems to know what he’s doing. The Featheringtons are straight out of Cinderella. What’s that about? I know a lot of people love the show. I wish I could.
