I love Colombo. He is unfailingly polite. He gets the murderer to admit the crime and is still calling her “m’am.” He treats the bad guys how he’d like to be treated, with respect and dignity. He doesn’t judge. He is always sad at the end, not joyous or triumphant. He’s good at his job, but he regrets that it’s necessary. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all cops could be like Colombo?
