I know a lot of Boomers who were laid off when things went bust in 2008 and never found a job in their field again. If you get laid off at 50 it’s a long time before Social Security kicks in, and nobody wants to hire you. A lot of people had to raid their retirement accounts to stay afloat during the big recession. They aren’t living large anymore.
