I hate what Disney has done to Hans Christian Andersen's stories, Savala. The Little Mermaid is about desire, vanity, longing, self-mutilation, regret, transformation and redemption. See lives happily ever after only in the sense that she embraces the fate she didn't have in mind. In the movie, things are quite a but sunnier in the end, to say the least.
The Snow Queen (read in the original, probably the most feminist fairy tale ever, all the strong characters both good and evil are female) Disney turned into Frozen with characters specifically created with an eye toward merchandizing rather than story line. (Don't get me started on Frozen.)
