I found the film both depressing and frustrating, Bev. McDormand’s character had options but still chose to live in a van where she didn’t even have a bed she could stretch out full-length on. We’re aware she’s working through the trauma of losing her husband, home, and town, but it still wasn’t clear to me why she preferred the nomad life over any other. I would hate it. (I was never a happy camper.)
Early in our marriage, my husband expressed an interest in spending retirement roaming the highways and byways in an RV. I told him I hoped he and his second wife would be very happy doing that. We’re still together, in our sixties, and thank goodness he’s no longer wants to hit the road. I like my garden and cooking too much to become a nomad.
