I find the term cis-gender demeaning, Catherine. It’s clinical and de-humanizing. All these labels are. Let’s just label everybody, shall we, whether they want the label or not?

Although you did not do so in your article, other writers have used cis-gender as a slur. (The hissing sound people make when they say it adds a touch of menace, don’t you think?) If people want to put themselves in a hundred different boxes, so be it. Just don’t put me in one of them.

What started as striving for inclusion has become the opposite. I respect all other human beings, but I’m not going to accept their instructions on how to conduct myself. Who died and left you in charge?

I do my thing. You do yours. It would be great to do it together. There’s an environmental catastrophe hanging over our heads that doesn’t give a damn about hurting anyone’s feelings. Maybe we ought to write more about that so we can figure out how to save the Earth from becoming uninhabitable.
