I find it interesting that these accusations began with academics. Why would they make something like this up? Because it’s publish or perish. Making a sensational charge like this also gets them noticed. They get invited to speak at conferences and other universities. They get their names in the press. In Carroll’s case, there was no wife or children to consider who would be hurt by the accusations or rush to refute them. Alice’s parents were dead. Alice died in November of 1934. Is it any coincidence that she was trending around that time? The more things change, the more they stay the same.
