I don’t think most people are thinking about race when they object to changes. Most people simply don’t like changes. Also, Americans are obsessed with being No. 1 in anything whether it’s the first state to vote or being named the top cheese producer in the nation. I suppose racism is a form of selfishness, but all it takes is selfishness alone to disregard other voices.
