I don’t attend church anymore but when I did, that was not the case. Not all churches are alike. Evangelical sects are into that tithing nonsense but you can attend mass at a Catholic church and never be expected to pay anything. They do pass the collection plate, but I’ve never seen anyone cast shade on someone who passed it on without putting something in. It happens all the time.

I’ve known many church people. Some are jerks, like in any walk of life, but many take the message seriously and are kind, decent, and charitable. It’s unfair to automatically assume someone will have a negative experience at church.
