I agree with much of what you say, Tessa, although I do write both kinds of poetry as well as haiku. “Spoken word” is the name given to “poetry" that doesn’t rhyme or adhere to any rhythm or structure. I don’t think that’s poetry either.

It’s running at the mouth.

Funny you should bring up the “plums that were in the ice box” poem. I stumbled across it when I was young and immediately called bullshit on it, like you did. It’s like those paintings that are basically a canvas painted one color. If you can sell that for a million bucks, my hat’s off to you, but that ain’t art.
