I agree, Ossiana. We’ve been force fed all these “success” stories about the guy with prosthetics who runs marathons and a woman with severe autism who’s a world-class poker player, or the penniless immigrant who turns his hot dog cart into a chain of fast food joints, but we only hear about these people because that sort of thing is extremely rare. If it weren’t, it wouldn’t be newsworthy.

Almost anyone can learn and improve on their natural abilities, but success in any area requires a certain skill set and some of those skills can’t be acquired by everyone. If you’re poor, it’s even harder. No one will hire you in certain jobs without the right look. You won’t even be hired as a server at a restaurant if you have bad teeth, for instance.
