Great story, Lilith. The more isolated people are from those who are different from them, the easier it is to mentally dehumanize them.

We disagree on one point, however. White people are not the cause of racism although we’ve certainly raised its profile over the last 500 years. Benjamin Isaac has an excellent book on the subject called “The Invention of Racism in Classical Antiquity.”

Racism is a tool that the wealthy and powerful of many races have used for millennia to hold on to and enhance their position. Those who do so are exploiting the notion hard-wired into humans to be wary of those who are different. It’s a survival skill that has some nasty consequences when inappropriately applied, as we still see today.
