From what other people tell me, sons are less likely to keep in touch. My sister has three adult daughters and she’s in constant contact with them even though two live in other states and one in another country. I am green with envy. My son just turned 30. He’s on the west coast and we’re on the east. We last saw him two years ago.

There’s no estrangement, we all like each other, it’s just that he’s crazy busy trying to build a career and he has a new girlfriend who just may be “the one.” It’s also because he’s a typical guy in that regard. “A son is a son ‘til he takes a wife, a daughter’s a daughter the rest of your life,” as the saying goes.

My mother, mother-in-law, and I were always the ones to keep the communication lines open with our husband’s families. He probably noticed that and figures it’s not his job.
