Fear has taken over my life. No, I don’t cower in bed under the covers, but it haunts me just the same. I eat and drink my feelings, and it doesn’t help. Prescription drugs help but not enough. Quite frankly, my dears, I’m terrified, and I don’t know what to do about it. This bus isn’t pulling into the depot anytime soon.
My fear is entirely rational. People my age are dying at an alarming rate, and it’s only going to get worse as more people retreat indoors. This very minute there are hundreds, maybe thousands of people hard at work crafting their COVID-19 Halloween costumes.
“I’m the virus. Get it?”
“Halloween is all about death anyway, let’s party!”
“Gee, we can’t disappoint the kids!”
And then we get to exercise our right to vote. Here’s where irrational fear has its heyday.
On the right:
“Mail-in voting is more vulnerable to tampering!” (It’s not.)
“If Trump loses, America will lose its standing in the world!” (It already has.)
