Fame has always fascinated me, Jurgen. I saw James Brown and Bo Diddley in the 1980s performing in tiny clubs. They were still famous, of course, and drew crowds but much smaller than you would have expected given who they were. They still gave 100%. It made me realize that it’s rarely the talent that fades, it’s the attention.
I recently read the book “The Gift of Fear.” It was written by a security expert who advises celebrities and others how to protect themselves from those who want to harm them. His stories about celebrity stalkers are eye-openers. Olivia Newton John was stalked by three completely unconnected people in the same weekend. Two of them had made it onto her property. I’m glad I never attained that level of fame. It sounds like a nightmare.
