Because Los Angeles is a typical American town. I've lived in a number of places where people take short cuts through other people's property.

Most of the places I played as a kid I was technically trespassing and nobody complained. That was 90 miles from New York City and nothing like it or Los Angeles or any other big city. It's a huge country with a wide variety of customs and habits. When you move, it takes years to fully learn the ropes in your new state and town. Comparing the U.S. and a Scandinavian country is pointless.
